🛶 Day 1: Srinagar Arrival, Houseboat Stay & Shikara Ride

Land at Sheikh-ul-Alam Airport in Srinagar. Instead of checking into a standard hotel, head straight to Dal Lake or Nigeen Lake to board a traditional carved wooden houseboat.

💡 Post-paid SIM Card Requirement

Pre-paid mobile connections from other Indian states do not work in Jammu & Kashmir due to security regulations. Ensure you have a post-paid connection (Airtel, Jio, or BSNL) or purchase a local pre-paid tourist SIM at Srinagar airport.

🚠 Day 2: Gulmarg Gondola Ride & Snowy Peaks

Drive 50 km to Gulmarg (Meadow of Flowers). It sits at an elevation of 8,690 ft and is the skiing capital of India.

Gulmarg Gondola Ride Phases:

  1. Phase 1 (Gulmarg to Kungdoor): Takes you through pine trees to 10,000 ft. Tickets: ~₹810. Usually has food stalls and mild sledding.
  2. Phase 2 (Kungdoor to Aparwath Peak): Climbs to 13,780 ft. Tickets: ~₹950. Reaches the snow line where you can touch glaciers and see the Line of Control (LoC) on clear days.

🌲 Day 3: Pahalgam & The Stunning Betaab Valley

Travel to Pahalgam (95 km from Srinagar), the town famous for shepherds, saffron fields on the way, and pristine rivers.

⛰️ Day 4: Day Trip to Sonamarg (Meadow of Gold)

Sonamarg (80 km from Srinagar) is famous for alpine meadows, glacial rivers, and the historic Silk Road pass nearby.

Thajiwas Glacier

Hire a pony or hike 3 km to the foot of Thajiwas Glacier. Here, local youths offer wooden sled rides down snowy slopes, even in early summer.

🌸 Day 5: Mughal Gardens & Srinagar Heritage Walks

Spend your final day visiting the Persian-style gardens constructed by Mughal Emperors on the shores of Dal Lake. Explore Shalimar Bagh (Abode of Love) and Nishat Bagh (Garden of Gladness). Walk around Lal Chowk to purchase Kashmiri saffron, walnuts, apples, and hand-woven Pashmina shawls.
